90 ball bingo is the version traditionally played in the UK and Australia and involves the random selection and calling of a series of balls numbered from 1 to 90.
The tickets used in 90 ball bingo display 15 numbers in a grid made up of 3 rows and 9 columns. Each row contains 5 randomly selected numbers with column 1 displaying numbers between 1 and 9; column 2 displaying numbers between 10 and 19, column 3 displaying numbers between 20 and 29 and so on for each of the 9 columns. Any squares in the grid which do not display a number remain blank.
The aim of bingo is to be the first player to mark called numbers off your card in a manner consistent with that of a winning pattern. In the case of 90 ball bingo there are 3 winning combinations. These patterns are fixed for each game and are ‘one line’ (whereby all 5 numbers in a horizontal row are marked off), ‘two lines’ (whereby all numbers in 2 horizontal lines have been crossed off) and ‘full house’ (where each number on a card has been called).
There is a pre-determined prize associated with each winning pattern and the first person in a game to complete each of the winning patterns will be rewarded. The prize for full house will be the greatest amount and is often called the ‘jackpot’.
To increase the chances of winning, many choose to buy a strip of 6 tickets which will contain every number from 1 to 90 as this means that 1 number will be crossed off each call. In some games, the purchase of a strip of tickets is compulsory.
Most British online bingo sites offer 90 ball bingo, however some now offer 75 ball bingo in addition to this.
